Getting Ready for the Season Ahead: Our Summer Timber Harvest

Getting Ready for the Season Ahead: Our Summer Timber Harvest

Summer might seem like an odd time to be thinking about firewood, but for us it's when a lot of the groundwork happens for the season ahead. Over the past few months we've been out harvesting timber, and now the yard is in full swing processing and drying it ready for despatch.

Timber Harvest at Egton Estate

The main focus of our timber sourcing this summer has been at Egton Estate, where we've employed CHC Forestry Ltd and their forestry machines to harvest and extract timber that will form next year's processing stock. It's a job that takes a fair amount of planning and time, so getting stocked up early in the year sets us up well for next season and beyond.

A Smaller Job at Arncliffe Estate

Alongside the work at Egton, we've also completed a smaller block, all hand felled and processed, at Arncliffe Estate dealing with more die-back infected Ash. While not on the same scale, every load counts towards keeping our stock levels healthy and our customers supplied throughout the year.

Stocking Up the Yard

With timber coming in from both sites, the yard has been busy. We've been processing at pace with our new-to-us Pinosa processor, which has made a real difference to how quickly we can turn harvested timber into ready-to-dry logs. It's all part of the investment we've been making to keep improving our service and lead times.

Once processed, the logs are starting to dry out in the summer sun while they wait to go into the kiln drying schedule — and right now the sheds are filling up nicely. There's something satisfying about seeing row after row of filled cages and bags, knowing they'll be ready and waiting when the colder weather arrives.

Ready for the Season Ahead

By the time autumn comes round, we’re well on track to seeing sheds full of properly dried, ready-to-despatch logs — meaning no delays and no compromise on quality when our customers need their firewood most. It's a lot of work through the summer months, but it's what allows us to keep supplying reliably, season after season.

We’ll be posting more footage of our processing and bagging setup over the coming months so keep an eye on our socials!
